My Story

Seeking a more fulfilling career so that I could meaningfully participate in my community, I entered graduate school in my mid-thirties and earned a Master of Arts in Special Education with a concentration in Learning Disabilities (now Disorders). Although this was many years ago, I’ve witnessed remarkable advancements, including the adoption of person-first language, significant progress in brain research and neurodiversity, and a growing focus on how students learn. By viewing education through the lens of providing each student with the tools to reach their best potential, I realized that my training has equipped me to make a profound difference in their educational journeys. I very much enjoy the professional development opportunities awarded to me, especially recent training in Restorative Practices, and Phonemic Awareness.

My passion lies in teaching students not just what to learn but how to learn, empowering them with strategies and skills that foster lifelong learning and success. I am particularly grateful to be in the McLean community because my supportive colleagues and families help me achieve that goal every day.
