Visual Arts & Technology Kristin Anclien

My Story

I am an artist, a teacher, a builder, an explorer, a promoter of imagination, and a committed scientific investigator. I have a zeal for learning and hold an Ed.M in Arts in Education from Harvard University, a M.A.T. in Special Education from Trinity College, a graduate certificate in Arts Integration from American University, and a B.A. in Political Science from Michigan State. I am enrolled in a animation certificate program at the Rhode Island School of Design. Over the years, I have been researching arts integration and how it can support students with learning differences. It has been my great privilege to help students flourish in and through the arts in many different ways throughout my career and now as a Visual Arts educator at McLean.

The arts are our greatest tool to teach students to be innovative, compassionate, cooperative, and reflective humans. My favorite lessons are those that open a student’s mind to possibilities and progress. My favorite moments are those when a student looks at what they’ve made and says, “I’m proud of this.”

I’m a big fan of nature, friendship, road trips, and finding unusual reasons for celebrations.  I live in the tiny town of Washington Grove, Maryland with my husband Chris, my daughter Sawyer, and our sweet pup Charley.
