On Thursday, December 19, from 5:00-6:30 pm TRIBE and McLean School are excited to partner in hosting the second in a series of Book Clubs.
The Winter Book Club gathering is for adult (18+) readers. This meet-up will focus on two book choices, The Color of Water and The Upper Room.
The Color of Water by James McBride is a memoir about a Black man raised by a White Jewish mother. McBride shares stories from both perspectives and relays the beauty of family. Readers will also find some familiarity with the locations, as parts of the memoir are local. The attendees of our last meeting chose this book.
A second option for December is The Upper Room by Mary Monroe. It’s a story about relationships and Ruby Montgomery as a very complex character known for taking things that aren’t rightfully hers, including a baby girl. She is also rumored to have done away with her husband and a few others. Themes and topics include murder, spirituality, violence, harsh language, mental health, and addiction.
The Book Club is organized by Upper School Counselor and TRIBE Board Member, Lauren Merikas, and Assistant Head of Upper School, Natalie Stapert.TRIBE/McLean Winter Book Club 12.19
